What better day than a lazy public holiday to share the incredible new range from boutique bedding company Kip & Co!? As soon as I first set eyes on the incredible bedding designs from Melbourne girls Alex, Kate and Hayley, it was love at first sight! As a poor deprived child who slept in hand-me-down bedsheets throughout my childhood, the idea of bright, beautiful sheets with plush throws on my bed still excites me! Who knew bedtime could be so colourful!? I caught up with Alex from Kip & Co to hear all about her fave bedsheets growing up and what inspires her and the rest of the Kip & Co girls to create such beautiful bedding.
AF: What was on your favourite bed sheets growing up?
Good question!! Gawd it’s so hard to think back that far. I remember I had this awesome red cotton sleeping back that had little flowers all over it and a bright orange zip and reversed all in blue. It could be used for slumber parties in my sisters’ rooms or unzipped and used as a doona. Wow…that is such a blast from the past!
AF: What is your must have item for a lazy morning in bed?
Depends on the day of the week but probably my MacBook and the weekend papers!
AF: Your new collection All Grown Up is the biggest and brightest yet! Is there a must have item this season?
Our bean bags have been going nuts – there is a bean bag renaissance upon us!! And really anything textured – including our velvets and our big hand woven bed spread.
AF: What keeps you inspired to continue creating such bright and beautiful
ranges each season?
I remember when I was bout 27 or something we were discussing with some friends that we had unknowingly past this social tipping point where we used to want to spend any extra pennies we had on fashion and then you get to this stage where it becomes less about you and more about creating a beautiful, welcoming, colourful, exciting home. So its a personal passion – we really want to create things that we would want in our own homes ourselves, and I think that helps keep you inspired. There are also just so many sources of inspiration out there I can’t imagine ever running out of ideas…our wish list is already long enough to keep us busy well into our 80s!!
Long enough to keep me in pretty bedsheets the rest of my life! Happy Face. And because Alex got a little excited with the Almost Famaus Q&A, here’s a little hand written story on how Kip & Co began! Enjoy…..
