San Francisco, California. The first stop on my dream USA trip last year. Such an amazing city, filled with so many places made famous by one of my very favourite writers, Jack Kerouac. I went on a walking tour of North Beach, the area Kerouac used to hang out in during his time in San Fran. Loved walking in his footsteps and I even scored myself a first edition of Maggie Cassidy from the Beat Museum, which is a place I’ve been dreaming of going to for so many years! My only devastation was that the original scroll of Kerouac’s On The Road is no longer at the Beat Museum after it was purchased by a private buyer.
Other San Fran highlights were seeing the Full House house with my cousin, who I grew up watching the show with and still quote Michelle Tanner to on an almost daily basis! Visiting Alcatraz was an incredible experience and even just the boat ride out there gives you stunning views back across the city – a must do on a sunny day! Tip, book your boat tickets in advance as I’ve had friends miss out on visiting as it sells out way in advance.
I must say although the Golden Gate Bridge was obviously on my San Fran to do list, it’s not something I had dreamed of doing or was overly excited about, however I was absolutely BLOWN AWAY by the site of the famous bridge. It is so incredibly big and absolutely stunning, it really did take my breathe away and I could have sat and stared at it for hours. Can’t wait to get back to San Francisco again, fingers crossed one day soon!
