The ever stylish Lindy Klim has teamed up with Melbourne label VIKTORIA + WOODS to create a twenty piece capsule collection which debuts today as part of VAMFF. Lindy worked closely with the V+W team to create a stunning collection, which encapsulates her classic style with the luxury and timelessness V+W pieces are so well known for. Proudly Australian made, this limited edition collection is a definite must have this winter.
I caught up with V+W Creative Director Margie Woods, Designer Lisa Reynolds and of course Lindy herself to chat with them about the new LKVW Capsule Collection.
Lindy, you’ve been a long time fan of VIKTORIA + WOODS so I imagine it must have been an absolute thrill to work on this collection with Margie and the team? How did the idea for the collaboration come about?
Absolutely, I’ve been a fan of VIKTORIA + WOODS for a long time and of course they’re a local Melbourne business like we are at Milk so its nice to be able to support each other. Margie contacted me a while back, we talked about working together on something and they had the idea of doing quite a casual collection, which was perfect for me.
I love fashion, obviously, but design is not something I’m trained in, I can’t even draw! So to be able to sit down with a designer and tell them my ideas and what I think could be done, or look better and work well was just a dream come true, its my perfect scenario. The designer Lisa is fantastic, she’s so talented. She took note of everything I said and was able to execute it so well, its just been fantastic.
Margie and Lisa, what made Lindy such a perfect fit for the V&W brand?
It felt like a natural fit for us. Not only has Lindy been a long time muse for the brand, we started connecting more over the last few years through work and friends, so we had a relationship that was easy and natural to build on.
Her style is pared back, polished and always considered, which is perfectly in line with the V+W brand. She also added a higher end element that gave this project an edge. It also helps us communicate strong characteristics of the brand, such as our use of luxury fabrics and the modernity and timelessness of our designs.
Lindy, you’re quite the red carpet darling here in Australia and we’re all so used to seeing you in magazines dressed up to the nines looking absolutely stunning, but your everyday look is much more casual chic. Have you tried to draw both sides of your style into the collection? How would you describe it?
Definitely, the collection is very me. I always say I have a uniform, that typical working mum uniform where you need to be practical but I also like to look chic at the same time. I refuse to compromise on fashion!
In saying that, I do have quite a casual approach to the way I dress, then going out I’ll throw on a pair of heels and a blazer. I like to keep it quite simple, that’s the way I’ve always been. I don’t really like colour.
Lindy, what were the key styles you picked up on during your recent trip to New York for NYFW?
It’s hard because we’re always so behind from New York, but their winter style currently is very much big cashmere jumpers, those gorgeous colourful oversized jumpers. I feel like we’ve got some catching up to do, but that’s what happens with fashion.
I don’t tend to follow trends, so it doesn’t really apply to me and it won’t apply to the VIKTORIA + WOODS collection because we’ve gone for that sophisticated look that wont’ change from year to year, so people can have the pieces for a long time.
Margie and Lisa, the results of the collection are absolutely stunning, you must be so thrilled. I know its hard choosing favourites, but what are your must have piece’s from the LKVW collection?
We have a couple of stand out favorites. The Empirical Coat is made from a virgin wool and has a double-sided detachable zip. It’s chic and adaptable. We also love the Klim Boyfriend Jeans, which are launching pad for us into true denim. They have unique design lines on the side steam stitch, making them both covetable and recognizable in a very understated way.
Lindy, what are your must have piece?
Mine is definitely the leather bomber jacket. I’m a big leather fan and I love a hood, which comes back I guess to that more casual side of my style. I also love the denim jacket that I have on now, denim and leather are my two favourite things! I like to wear my denim jackets oversized, so with this collection I’ve been wearing a large so I can wear it over big baggy jumpers. They’re definitely my two faves!
The Capsule will be available exclusively to the VIKTORIA + WOODS online boutique and Pop Up store at 1087 High Street Armadale from today and in conjunction with VAMFF. If you would like to meet Lindy in person head into the pop up store today between 12-2pm.
